England to Begin the European Championship 2028 Journey at City’s Home Ground

The England national team will embark on their UEFA Euro 2028 campaign at the the home of Manchester City, on the condition that they achieve the anticipated passage for a competition taking place in most of the United Kingdom and the Ireland.

The Etihad Stadium has not welcomed an English men’s game since the spring of 2016, when the Turkish team were beaten 2-1 in a friendly, but is expected to welcome the national team for their inaugural game on June 10, 2028.

The team are planned to play their final two group matches at the national stadium, but, if they top Group B, their last-16 tie would occur at the Newcastle stadium. Finishing second would mean beginning the knockouts at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Championship Kickoff and Rally

The event was inaugurated at an ceremony in central London on Wednesday night. High-ranking officials from the tournament organizers and the host football associations were barracked as they arrived the location by approximately 50 pro-Palestine demonstrators, who demanded Israel to be kicked out from global football because of the conflict in Gaza.

Banners were raised with phrases reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators chanted: “Kick Israel out.”

Championship Timeline

The inaugural fixture of the tournament will be played at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, on June 9, 2028, a fixture that will feature the Welsh team if they make it.

Wembley will host the two semi-final matches and the championship match, which will be played on Sunday 9 July with a kick-off time at 5pm.

It is hoped that an afternoon start, which will also be implemented for UEFA Champions League finals from the following campaign, will cater to households and help connect with a more diverse set of audiences.

Host Nations

The Republic of Ireland are scheduled to play their initial fixture at the Dublin Arena and Scotland would do the same at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.

Each host nation’s squad will participate in the preliminary stage; two reserved places will be reserved for any that miss out on the tournament through that route.

Locations and Knockout Stage

Villa Park and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium finalize the nine host stadiums. All will hold at least one elimination game, with the last eight staged at each country’s national stadium.

The qualification draw will be held in the Northern Irish capital, which was excluded as a host city last year when it was revealed the Belfast stadium could not be upgraded in time, on a date in late 2026.

Official Statement

“It will be a competition for the followers and a showcase of everything we love about the game – its passion and power to foster unity.”

More than three million passes, a unprecedented number for a Euro tournament, are anticipated to be released to supporters.
