England's boxing star is set to be promoted to heavyweight title holder after Oleksandr Usyk chose to vacate his world title

This development comes after Ukrainian fighter informed the World Boxing Organisation he would not engage in a required championship defense against his mandatory opponent

The boxing organization confirmed that Usyk had "elected to relinquish his title after thoughtful consideration"

The Ukrainian maintains the multiple world titles, having overcome Daniel Dubois at the famous London venue in July to become a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion

He first became the four-belt undisputed champion in spring 2024 by defeating the British champion, before relinquishing one championship a month afterwards and deciding not to fight the obligatory contender

Usyk won the world title in two years ago by overcoming Joshua and went on to protect his title repeatedly

In July, the boxing organization mandated talks for a required title defense against interim champion Joseph Parker, only for a back injury sustained by Usyk to cause the delay of the contest

But Wardley, 30, took the interim title from Parker with a significant shock in the later stages at London's O2 Arena recently and was mandated to face Usyk before the September deadline
