PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Claim Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening cup on fourteen different times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the French league champions and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger found the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side fired two times late to take a surprise lead. Initially, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital equaliser in the dying moments to force the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to complete a convincing penalty victory.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
