The former Liverpool manager admits a return to lead Liverpool is theoretically possible.
Jurgen Klopp, who departed from Anfield in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback remains an option. Klopp, following a hugely successful nine-year spell that included continental glory and the Reds’ first league title in 30 years, now holds roles as head of global soccer with the Red Bull group and as an advisor for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
They secured the league title last season, but many fans who adore the manager would welcome the notion of his potential comeback. During an extensive chat, he told Steven Bartlett: “I stated I won't manage any other side on English soil. Which implies if then it’s Liverpool...absolutely. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“I’m 58, which suggests the choice could be mine in a few years, I don’t know. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. Fortunately, I don’t have to do that. I'll simply watch what the future brings.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Questioned regarding which situations would need to occur to draw him back to the dugout, Klopp admitted he feels no immediate pull to such a return. “It's unclear to me, I enjoy my current role,” he stated. “I don't crave being a coach; No desire to be under bad weather through long matches; No need for media briefings repeatedly each week or having 10-12 interviews each week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, but sitting in a restaurant with the players having a nice chat, that’s nice. With many victories meaning regularly great spirits around the place. I can still hear the captain's chuckle in my ear as an instance.”
Commending Arne Slot
He commended for his successor, praising him due to the changes that won the league last term. They've been defeated four in a row in all competitions following significant transfers, though he denied the idea it could be the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if spoken against. He’s an incredible talent. The French striker, incredible player. They have a strong well-judged squad. Fans shouldn't fret regarding the Reds, they'll bounce back.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally about the death of Jota, whom he brought in during his tenure, along with the consequences for the team. The forward was killed in a road accident together with his sibling in July.
“Who can fill the void of somebody like Diogo? It’s not about the player himself, it’s the guy he was. It's hard to picture the squad absent his presence. I still cannot speak properly on this topic. It was an incredible shock for all the boys too. Not a single person might employ it to justify results but it is the situation. Being in that space where he was omnipresent. Coping with it emotionally is not easy. Impossible.”
