The Game UN:Me: An Cerebral Thriller Merging Survival Horror with Among Us Gameplay
The recent Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled several intriguing future games, but one in particular has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo experience seems to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.
"It's a distinctive game where a girl harboring several personalities within her must escape from a maze of the mind," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.
Entering a Fractured Consciousness
In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of high school age. Inside her reside four distinct souls, each with their own fears and drives. These entities can seize control spontaneously, unleashing their deep-seated terrors upon her without warning.
Judging by revealed footage, much of the narrative takes place within a creepy medical facility, while additional clips show the protagonist navigating a desolate chapel.
An Environment of Individual Horror
"What makes you afraid of? What causes you uneasy?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. People in power. Elements that appear minor to other people can activate something primal within us. This game delves into that idea — fears that are specific to every individual."
The central gameplay loop involves managing whichever soul emerges at a particular time. However, these identities will switch against your will as you play. While exploring, each soul's fears become amplified and assault the girl in succession. When the soul shifts, so does the particular terror the player encounters.
Eerie Visuals and a Fatal Decision
Initially, UN:Me shares noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is filled with nurses who all share the identical visage, with unnervingly wide smiles. Patients in the waiting room have large blooms where their necks should be. Floral motifs are an ever-present element, juxtaposing organic elegance with unnatural horror.
Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls haunting the heroine is the "true" one. "Each of the souls claims that the body belongs to them," explains a developer. "During the game, you must determine who is real."
Once players believes a persona is fake, they must eliminate it. But, since every entity can deceive or hide the truth, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.
"Maybe you've already eliminated the real [soul] with your own hands," a voice states. "The final entity standing might be a fraud. In any case, your decisions are final."
UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed launch window, but it is available to follow on platforms.
