The Red Devils Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL side.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s forward line. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be building momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
