The fixture was the LA's first Cup game at Staples Center this campaign after beginning group play with several away matches. He admitted he didn’t recall whether the courts in New Orleans and Memphis’ venue were less grippy than normal.
“Since they’re fresh surfaces, they’re difficult,” Luka noted. “They require ... more gameplay.”

Criticisms about the tournament courts are a recurring issue. Celtics’ Jaylen Brown stated he injured his groin while playing on the Toronto’s NBA Cup court in 2023, and other players have shared their views on the dangers of playing on new court surfaces.
The veteran star remarked he noticed “several players” having difficulty on the court during the game, but wasn’t concerned about his own safety.
