Toronto's Blue Jays reached their maiden championship series since 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive game seven of the AL Championship Series.
Down 3-1, outfielder George Springer hit a three-run blast in the seventh inning, guiding the Toronto squad in the majors to a four games to three triumph in the series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are the current crown, in the upcoming championship.
"I'm just so happy for this squad, the city, our country," Springer stated, a star of the Astros team that won the 2017 championship. "What an unbelievable moment."
Springer has now connected for 23 post-season home runs, ranking him third in history behind Manny Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).
"There's probably not another person anywhere that I want up in that situation besides George Springer with his October magic," remarked manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, after leading the series two games to none and three games to two, continue to be the one club that has never reached in a Fall Classic.
Manager Dan Wilson stated "there's no question that it's going to sting" following his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but commended their efforts throughout the year.
"This is a unique group. Sadly that we finished on the wrong side of the series," he added.
The Blue Jays claimed the title on both previous visits in 1992 and 1993, and will host the Dodgers in the first game on the upcoming Friday.
