Ukraine has announced the commencement of large-scale manufacturing for a new locally engineered defensive UAV to enhance its air defences. Three initial manufacturers have begun manufacturing, with 11 more preparing to set up assembly lines, the defence ministry announced this past Friday.

Advanced 'Octopus' System Proven in Combat Situations

These UAVs utilize a domestically developed technology called “Octopus” engineered to intercept Iranian-made drones. This technology has been tested in actual battle and demonstrated effective “at night, under jamming and flying low,” officials stated. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has set an ambitious goal of producing up to 1,000 interceptors each day.

Recent Assault on the Capital Characterized as Calculated

Volodymyr Zelenskyy described Moscow's most recent assault on Ukraine as “deliberate, premeditated and brutal” after six people lost their lives and dozens injured in a wave of nocturnal attacks throughout Kyiv. Alert systems activated in Kyiv shortly after midnight this past Friday, with enemy UAVs quickly detected overhead and heavy machine-gun fire from Ukraine's aerial protection units.

Zelenskyy stated the country was targeted by 430 drones and 18 missiles. The deceased had been at home in an apartment building on Kyiv’s left bank during the strike. Dozens of additional structures were damaged, including the diplomatic mission of Azerbaijan.

International Protest After Embassy Destruction

Azerbaijan said it delivered a strong protest to the Russian ambassador this past Friday after the destruction at its diplomatic compound. The blast from a Russian Iskander missile demolished a section of the compound's boundary wall and resulted in serious damage to the embassy grounds, the Azerbaijani foreign ministry reported. No one was hurt, and a ministry spokesperson confirmed the diplomatic mission in Ukraine was continuing to operate.

Moscow's Aerial Bomb Production Sees Significant Increase

Russia plans to produce as many as 120,000 glide bombs in the current year, a senior Ukrainian intelligence official disclosed, including 500 of a new, extended-range model that is capable of targeting additional urban centers. Moscow's military have been launching hundreds of glide bombs daily, with last month’s average daily usage standing at approximately 170, based on official military statistics.

Kyiv's Strikes Focus on Moscow's Oil Facilities

Russia’s Black Sea port of Novorossiysk temporarily suspended oil exports on Friday – equivalent to two percent of global supply – after a strike by Ukrainian forces. Ukraine’s general staff said its forces had fired Neptune cruise missiles and deployed multiple kinds of strike drones in the assault against Novorossiysk “as part of operations to reduce the strategic capabilities of the invading force.”

Ukrainian forces separately targeted an oil refinery in the Saratov area and a fuel storage facility in nearby Engels during the night.

Global Sanctions Impact Russian Oil Producer

Russia’s second-largest energy company Lukoil said on Friday it has been in talks with potential buyers regarding its foreign assets after last month’s sanctions from the UK and the US and the collapse of a deal with commodity trader Gunvor. “The specific deal will be announced once conclusive negotiations have been reached and required authorizations have been obtained,” the company stated.

Ukrainian President Schedules Visit to Spain

The Ukrainian leader is scheduled to travel to the Spanish capital, Madrid, next Tuesday to meet with parliament members following his trip to France, Spanish parliamentary officials disclosed. Zelenskyy will convene with representatives from all houses of the legislature during his visit, an official announcement said.
